US-101 HOV Lanes PA/ED

Regional growth in Ventura County is contributing to a rise in traffic on US-101. HOV lanes are being implemented to improve traffic operations and accommodate future traffic volumes.

In Ventura County, US-101 is a critical highway providing travel to nearby communities and promoting local mobility. Additionally, it serves as a major interregional route facilitating travel to the northern and central regions of California. However, the highway already experiences significant congestion, which is forecast to worsen to over 170,000 vehicles daily in 2035. Improvements will be necessary to accommodate this projected increase in traffic.

Traffic shifts will be utilized to minimize the number of closures on interchange ramps.

Advanced Civil Technologies has supported the delivery of the PA/ED phase for improvements that will alleviate highway congestion. The project will construct an HOV lane in each direction of US-101 from S. Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks to SR-33 in Ventura, a distance of approximately 27 miles. To accommodate the additional HOV lane, multiple structures will require widening or replacement throughout the corridor. Our team has prepared the construction staging/traffic handling plans and the Storm Water Data Report (SWDR).

Traffic shifts will be utilized to minimize the number of closures on interchange ramps.

Due to existing congestion, the project will be constructed in two phases to eliminate the need for lane closures. Construction on interchange ramps will utilize traffic shifts wherever possible, minimizing the need for short-term ramp closures. Additionally, while preparing the SWDR, our team referenced two separate storm water corridor studies to identify Best Management Practices (BMPs) that had been previously proposed for US-101. The team addressed all BMPs previously proposed within the project limits and determined if the proposed locations were still feasible.
