Caltrans District 7 Multiphase Project-Specific Pavement Rehab Project (Contract No. 07A4518)

SR-150 and SR-33 have developed signs of roadway detriment in recent years, contributing to poor ride quality. Pavement rehabilitation efforts and other upgrades are underway to improve the traveling experience on both highways.

Our team staged construction in Downtown Ojai to occur outside of the busy summer months, a critical season for many local businesses.

In Ventura County, SR-150 and SR-33 are critical highways that facilitate travel between the cities of Ojai, Meiners Oaks, and Miramonte in addition to providing access to surrounding regions. Extensive traffic has contributed to minor pavement distress, such as alligator cracking, longitudinal cracking, and rutting. If left uncorrected, the deterioration will progress and eventually require a major roadway rehabilitation.

Our team is responsible for delivering the PA/ED and PS&E phases for this pavement rehabilitation project.

To prevent further deterioration and maintain ride quality, Advanced Civil Technologies prepared the Project Report, Environmental Document, and PS&E for rehabilitation of the highway pavement of SR-33 and SR-150, extending pavement service life by a minimum of five years. The project will upgrade existing guardrails to Midwest Guardrail System, replace signs to meet current retro-reflectivity standards, and provide drainage improvements. Additionally, our staff prepared hydraulic/hydrology studies, the Right-Of-Way Data Sheet, construction staging plans, TMP, Storm Water Data Report (SWDR), and multiple environmental technical studies.

Traffic shifts will maintain the operation of SR-150 during construction.

The project offered several challenges, particularly the narrow width of SR-150. Most of the pavement rehabilitation will take place on two-lane conventional highway with a total width of only 32 feet, making construction staging a key consideration in the development of the project. Additional challenges included the presence of several other efforts within the project limits, which proposed ADA compliant upgrades as well as pedestrian/bicycle safety improvements. Our team coordinated with all adjacent projects to ensure that the necessary ADA upgrades were developed between all the improvements.
