Project Initiation Documents

A successful Project Initiation Document (PID) is essential to move a project forward. By identifying a transportation need, understanding impacts, and estimating schedules/costs, a PID justifies the advancement of proposed improvements into the approval phase.

Our team has delivered PID-phase projects for numerous improvements, including the implementation of ramp meters on SR-60.

The PID phase is a critical step in allowing transportation improvements to compete for funds or receive the necessary approvals to advance to the next phase. A successful PID must provide an effective Purpose and Need statement that justifies the use of highway funds and explains why this project should be prioritized over other improvements. Additionally, this phase must identify environmental impacts, right-of-way constraints, and traffic operation impacts so the cost and feasibility of the project can be determined.

Advanced Civil Technologies possesses experience in both supporting and managing the preparation of PIDs, including PSR-PDS, PSR, and PIR. Our staff provides many of the tasks necessary to complete this phase, such as geometric development, risk register development, and cost estimates. Additionally, we have coordinated with adjacent projects to understand and accommodate impacts to the construction and development of our own project. The breadth of projects our team has participated in allow us to understand the requirements necessary to transition each type of project into the PA/ED phase and/or compete for funding.
